Waste connected with the cargo: Part B

When loading and unloading a vessel, the cargo is divided into different categories: cargo, residual cargo and cargo residues. Part B of the Convention and associated appendices describes how residual cargoes and waste from the cargo caused by the loading and unloading of a vessel should be handled.

Belgium and The Netherlands have set up a contact point for part B of the Treaty.

The Treaty is linked to a list of substances which have a key role in determining the appropriate discharge standard.

The list of substances must always be consulted to establish the discharge standard of a vessel as well as the deposit and intake instructions with regard to the permitted discharge of washing water, rain and ballast water mixed with cargo residues.

The list of substances makes it possible to determine which discharge standards must be met, and then what to do with the washing water, from holds and tanks of different types of cargoes.
